We have a tradition in our house that every Friday, where possible, we eat the kind of food that can be found on a take-away menu. Lots of people have take-aways on Friday night. It's the start of the weekend, the end of a long week at work and having somebody take the effort out cooking makes the transition into the weekend that bit easier.
But we have found, living in an area where there are lots of substandard pizza/curry/kebab houses, that we can do better ourselves. We know how fresh our ingredients are, we know how much salt and fat and been used. We also know how much chilli we can take and we can certainly spot when a dish is over cooked! We still look for inspiration from the flotsam that too often flops through the letter box, but we rarely dial that number.
